[Inquisition taken at the General Sessions of the Peace] Scope and Content Held in the Mote Hall in Maldon on 6 July 15 Eliz., 1573 before Willaim Vernon and Thomas Eve, bailiffs and Edward Coker and Andrew Michaelson, justices of the peace. It was presented that Alice Chaundeler of Maldon spinster there (communis incantatrix et magica) bewitched Mary, daughter of Francis Cowper, fletcher, aged 8 years , on 3 July and thereby killed her.
